Three (3) to four (4) units for college prep
World Geography
Prerequisite: None
This course reviews the basic skills of geography and applies them to the physical and cultural
aspects of the geography of the major regions of the world. The second semester of the class
includes the United States, with special emphasis on Michigan history and geography.
World History
Prerequisite: None
This course presents the history of several world civilizations. The emphasis throughout the
course is on the use of history to understand the modern world. This course stresses the history
of God’s creation and emphasizes the struggle of western people to attain dignity. Students learn
the information they need to become contributing members of a global society and accumulate a
body of knowledge to help them live creatively in modern society. The course also stresses the
importance of God acting throughout history to help His people.
United States History
Prerequisite: None
This course is an overview of our country’s history beginning with the colonial era. An emphasis
is placed on historical facts, the lives of the Presidents, and how God’s influence allowed our
country to become dynamic.
Twentieth Century Global History
Prerequisite: United States History
This course offers a detailed study of twentieth century events as they relate to our present
existence. Major topics include World War II, the Cold War, civil rights in the US, the Vietnam
War, Watergate and recent changes in Europe.
Government
Prerequisite: None
This course presents the study of national, state, and local governments. Basic principles
underlying a democracy are examined with a view toward understanding how well these
principles find expression in our nation’s political practices. Particular emphasis is placed on
contemporary political problems and challenges.
Current Events
Prerequisite: World History
This course increases the student’s awareness of international, national, state and local events to
determine how these events both relate to past historical events and especially how they affect an
individual’s daily life. Events studied include campaigns and elections. News accounts from
different sources are used and analyzed.
